My design theory walkthough
Source engine map making:
A walk through of how I start a map all the way till its a playable version. For this im going to make a small 1 scene/area map focusing on visuals and at the end of this i will post the playable version aswell to download (Will require Half life 2: Epsiode 2)
1) First of all, Im the type of person who randomly gets ideas while doing anything basicly. What i then do is type down ideas to go along with this, An example of this image below.

2) After i have a few ideas dotted down, I go hunting for reference materiel As for this i went on goggle and found images of forest paths and water falls ETC. Anything that i can look at while mapping to give me ideas and base some parts on. Below are some examples of what i found:

3) I then hope into Source SDK and begin mapping out a Very rough idea of the scene im making, getting the idea of the space. While doing this i mark out the path/space i want the player to be bound to in this map in orange and the rest of the map in grey.
